I’m really into Kwabarou (Sweet and Sour Pork). After trying Restaurant Chuanke in Imun-dong, I was impressed once again. Located on a tree-lined street in Sinsa-dong, it’s hard to find a satisfying spot in this area, but this place feels like an oasis. I tried every dish on the menu, and each one left me satisfied.

This Chinese home-style restaurant is run by a very friendly lady owner. Her kindness radiates throughout the entire experience, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. The cleanliness of the place adds to the overall positive experience.

The Kwabarou is perfectly crispy and chewy. It’s reminiscent of high-quality jjonggi, with a crispy outer layer and a chewy, jelly-like inside. Though the meat is thin, it pairs well with the tempura. The sauce is expertly seasoned.

For the malatang, they don’t skimp on the ingredients, and the soup is incredibly rich and flavorful. It’s not overly spicy, making it a great option for lunch. The Sweet and Sour Eggplant resembles sweet potato sticks and boasts a delightful sweetness.

The Mapo Tofu rice bowl carries a slight spicy kick, and the tofu has a soft, jelly-like texture. It was a new culinary experience for me, and I’m sure to frequent this restaurant in Sinsa-dong. I’ll definitely be back for more.
